Getting to know our Purple Turtle Family

Everyone that visits our Wellbeing centre has a story…
At one of our recent family meetings we were discussing how as therapists and teachers we meet some truly inspiring people everyday. An important part of our roles are to really listen to our clients and their stories they have to share.
Then we thought, how great it would be to share all our stories too!

This week we spoke to Clare Maddalena – Teacher and founder of LushTums.

What classes do you teach at PTW
Pregnancy Yoga Classes
Birth preparation antenatal education courses for couples
Postnatal Mum & Baby Yoga Classes
Women’s Yoga for some time out for them!
How did you become a teacher?
I was always drawn to yoga and spent most of my childhood upside down hanging out of trees or doing wheel pose or legs up the wall – its in my blood.
What do you love about teaching?
I love it because it is offering something that really makes people feel happier, be healthier and make positive changes in their lives. Ultimately doing yoga is a way to find and fulfill ones potential in life. So offering a space where people can make that inward enquiry is profound and seeing the joy, the releases and sometimes life changing realizations people experience, is wonderful. Beyond words really.
What is your greatest professional achievement?
My greatest professional achievement is learning to not put great professional achievements on a pedestal and instead come from a much more grounded place when I teach and communicate with others from my heart.
How do you relax?
I relax in a HOT bath and by walking or running with my dog in the nature, woods are my favourite but anything green will do!
Which famous person would you most like to attend your class?
The famous person I’d like in my class would be Professor Brian Cox, as he talks about what i talk about from a science & physics perspective and it would be interesting for me to have a chance to cross pollinate our ideas.
Last moment that made you laugh or cry?
I laugh and cry a lot… people being droll or sardonic or taking the p*ss tends to make me laugh. I cry when my heart hurts. It’s always pretty funny hanging out with my children – they definitely make me laugh! We usually do some silly kitchen disco dancing that’s amusing!
What is top of your bucket list?
I’m working through my bucket list, but at the moment I’d like to learn to sail and then take my family on a sailing trip around some lush islands, maybe in the med or the Caribbean… you know, and sleep out under a sky FULL of stars… we don’t see enough stars when we live in cities…
Advice for life?
Advice for life…. SLOW DOWN… what is the rush? Seriously… I just wrote a whole blog on it if you want some more details – http://lushtums.blogspot.co.uk/2016/09/in-celebration-of-slow.html – it’s only when we slow down, do we heal our bodies, reduce our stress, breathe properly, see the beauty all around us, live in the present, gain some perspective on the ups and downs and can practice a bit of that current buzzword of being Mindful!!! So that’s my advice – SLOW DOWN.
